June Hiring Trends

What’s Happening in Office Support + The EOFY Effect

As we roll into the final weeks of the financial year, hiring across Sydney’s office support sector is holding steady—if not picking up pace. While some industries remain cautious, we’re seeing a clear push across admin, reception, and support functions to finalise headcount, secure temps, or plan ahead for FY25.

EOFY is always a unique period in the recruitment calendar. Budgets close, reporting deadlines loom, and businesses either rush to secure short-term help—or begin planning for a new year of growth.

Here’s what we’re seeing right now in the Sydney office support space:

Top Hiring Trends in Office Support – June 2025

EOFY = Last-Minute Temp Hires

Businesses are bringing in short-term receptionists, administrators, and project support to help with:

  • Annual reporting deadlines
  • Data entry and compliance audits
  • Staff leave cover
  • Overflow during stocktake or financial reviews

HCR Insight: Many of our temps are being hired within 24–48 hours—speed is everything in June.

Temp-to-Perm Gaining Popularity

Some clients are using EOFY as a trial period—bringing temps on now with a view to converting them in July when the new budget kicks in.

This works well for roles like:

  • Executive Assistants
  • Team Coordinators
  • Office Managers
  • Accounts Support

HCR Insight: If you’re a candidate open to temping, June is a great time to get your foot in the door.

Hybrid Still Reigns Supreme

Across nearly all office support roles, candidates are expecting hybrid work as the norm—not the perk. We’re seeing greater flexibility offered in roles like:

  • Admin Assistants
  • Client Services
  • Operations Support

HCR Insight: If your job ad doesn’t mention flexibility, you may be missing out on the top 20% of candidates.

Skills in Demand

We’re seeing particular demand for candidates with:

  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills
  • CRM/database experience (Salesforce, MYOB, Xero, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple inboxes, calendars, or deadlines

Soft skills like initiative, reliability, and emotional intelligence are often what make a successful office support hire.

5. Salaries Are Moving (Again)

In line with the national minimum wage increase, and rising expectations around workload and flexibility, we’re seeing salaries shift up—especially in temp roles.

New Baseline:
Entry-level office support temps now need to be paid at least
$54.27/hour (including casual loading, super, and on-costs).
Permanent salaries are also on the rise, particularly for EA, OM, and senior admin roles.
